Did I just call myself a nobody?

Well, I'm not.

But I actually live in a village that has its own version of Stonehenge, called the “Navel of the World.” And yes, when we moved here, they did try to take pictures of our navels! No way, never…

I’m an English expat living the French dream. We really do have cows as neighbors—and no, I’m not kidding! We’re truly surrounded by fields, both croplands and pastures. Flies can be a problem in the summer.

Here’s to the navel of the world!

But I’m not just anyone. I’m perfectly bilingual. Even the cows speak French (see the photo for reference—which translates to “Moo!”). 

I’m a freelancer with a wild sense of humor and a bit of a crazy streak (which was essential for fleeing my home country with nothing but £3,000 in the bank). 

We moved to France in 2004, after buying four walls, half a roof, and a garden that was practically a jungle. 

Twenty-two years later, our house is almost finished, just in time to start all over again. We now have four walls that meet the completed roof—minus the ventilation holes—the jungle has retreated (a little), and we can sleep without frost covering our toes at night.

France is my homeland, our home is our haven of peace, and the language… is just a minor hurdle that I’ve overcome.
