Delegating “small tasks”

Following a BNI meeting last year, a client told me about a recurring issue with his systems: customers who had already paid their invoices were still receiving payment reminders. The root cause lay in the reliance on manual data entry within his accounting system, which meant that payments recorded at the bank were not always accurately reflected in the accounting software.

👀Customers were automatically receiving payment reminders for payments they had already made
👀This had a negative impact on trust and reduced the likelihood of receiving referrals
👀It created a false impression of “late payments” at the end of the year, negatively affecting the company’s financial stability.

Like many companies, my client uses accounting software that relies on manual reconciliation. Faced with increasing time constraints, they were no longer able to manage this process consistently, particularly when it came to handling sensitive information from bank statements. They therefore decided to delegate this responsibility, but that doesn’t mean giving up control.

This allowed my client to free up time in his busy schedule, enabling him to focus his energy and attention on other aspects of his business.

📈 This was a strategic decision that ultimately led to a nearly 30% increase in revenue.
Although the task itself only takes a few hours a month, its impact has been significant.

Payment records are now accurate and up-to-date, eliminating unnecessary follow-ups. Customer confidence has improved, making them more likely to recommend the company. In addition, payment delays—which were previously overestimated in year-end financial statements—have been cut in half, providing a more accurate picture of the company’s financial situation.

What could delegating a "small" task do for your business?

✅ Stronger customer relationships and a better reputation
✅ Greater financial transparency and stability
✅ More time and resources to focus on growth

Edit:

I spoke with my client last week. He confirmed that, although the first quarter is usually a quieter period, 2026 is already shaping up to be their best year yet. Business is booming, with a packed schedule and barely a moment to catch their breath between appointments.

A coincidence?
